Enjoy the silence
Due to various readings on the subject, the past few weeks have been a time of introspection and reflection on the value of SILENCE in our lives.
This reflection (like any deep one, at least those that aim to be profound) has made me realize, through contrast, how much we lack it in the hustle and bustle of daily life.
I was reminded of the ever-present background noise, even during the quietest hours of the night, in the largest cities. A deep, low, and persistent hum. It’s there, forgotten by everyone. It is part of our lives, and because we are so used to it, we hardly notice it.
Something similar happens inside our minds during times of great agitation. The stress we are constantly exposed to leads to this: during the day, we operate on autopilot, surrounded by endless stimuli; at night, we believe we are in silence, but the echoes of the day linger – deep, low, and persistent. Over time, this becomes our version of silence.
The years go by, and we continue, content with the thought that we are granted this stillness at the end of each day. We use these moments to “recover”.
Then, suddenly, something makes us pull (or pulls for us) the breaks, and our lives are put on hold. In front of us: SILENCE. We find it strange. We are no longer used to dealing with it. The body shifts, searching for a more comfortable position; the mind looks for stimuli – there are no podcasts, no reels, nothing. And at that moment, we realize that we haven’t truly experienced SILENCE in years. And how much we’ve missed it.
Have a great week!
